Dental physiotherapy a holistic approach at Iwanek Clinic

A healthy smile is not just beautiful teeth. It is also the pain-free and proper functioning of the entire system of joints, muscles and nerves of the face and skull. At Iwanek Clinic we combine advanced dentistry with professional physiotherapy, offering comprehensive care that reaches the very source of the problem.
Teeth grinding (bruxism), a clicking jaw, recurring headaches resembling migraines or chronic neck tension are signals that should not be ignored. They most often result from excessive stress, bite defects or overload of the temporomandibular joints. Instead of masking the symptoms, we rely on precise diagnostics and restoring the body's natural biomechanics.
Thanks to close cooperation between our physiotherapist, dentists and orthodontist, we provide multi-track treatment. We support patients at every stage - from preparation for orthodontic treatment, through rehabilitation after complex surgical procedures, to therapies that relieve pain and tension in the face and neck.

  • Dental physiotherapy

    (First visit)

A diagnostic and therapeutic visit that starts the treatment process. It includes a detailed medical history and a functional assessment of the temporomandibular joints, masticatory muscles and body posture. Based on the examination we choose the appropriate manual techniques (including intraoral work, spinal mobilisation, myofunctional therapy and dry needling) and prepare a self-therapy plan to carry out at home.

Important: Please bring any medical documentation you have (X-rays, MRI) and the relaxation splint you use to your first visit.

  • Dental physiotherapy

    (Follow-up visit)

Assessment of progress and continuation of the planned manual therapy. Depending on the stage of treatment, we focus on the temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles, cervical spine or diaphragm. The visit also includes correcting and updating the home exercises recommended earlier.

Every visit is also a time to check the effectiveness of your home recommendations, correct the exercises you perform and gradually introduce new elements that consolidate the relaxation achieved and restore physiological chewing biomechanics.

  • Dental physiotherapy for children

    (from 5 years of age)

Therapy dedicated to the youngest patients struggling with bruxism, teeth clenching, frequent headaches, mouth breathing or difficulty opening their mouth.

Course: Interview with the parent, assessment of posture, breathing pattern and muscle tension. We use painless manual work, exercises for correct breathing and swallowing (myofunctional therapy) and taping. The parent receives a set of simple exercises to do with the child at home.

  • Aesthetic facial physiotherapy

Manual work on the tissues of the face, neck and décolleté. The treatment improves skin tension, reduces swelling and gives a natural lifting effect. Depending on the patient's needs, we use drainage techniques, vacuum cupping, Gua Sha massage, aesthetic kinesiotaping and elements of cosmetic acupuncture.

Who it is for: Ideal preparation for aesthetic medicine treatments or support for recovery after them.

  • Medical Kobido

A signature lifting massage based on traditional Japanese techniques. It involves deep work on the facial muscles, facial fascia, neck and décolleté. It effectively combines a lifting effect with lymphatic drainage and acupressure.

  • Kobido Intense

    Transbuccal massage + taping

A comprehensive, extended Kobido massage protocol. Enriched with intraoral (transbuccal) therapy that effectively releases tension in the jaw, neck muscles and suboccipital area. The treatment ends with the application of bio-aesthetic taping, which supports drainage and prolongs the lifting effect between visits.

  • Dry needling

Precise insertion of thin acupuncture needles into trigger points in order to relax them deeply. The technique is used on the muscles of the face, mastication, neck and shoulder girdle.

Indications: Very effective in treating headaches, bruxism and strong muscle tension accompanying temporomandibular joint dysfunction.

  • Bruxism Package

    (6 visits)

A dedicated therapeutic programme for patients with bruxism, masticatory muscle pain and joint disorders. Each session is intensive manual therapy (external and intraoral) and work with an individually selected self-therapy exercise protocol.

Comprehensive approach: The programme is carried out in close cooperation with the treating doctor (a dentist or orthodontist from our team), which maximises the results of treatment.

Frequently asked questions by our patients

Our overriding goal is to bring relief, not to cause extra pain. However, working on very tense muscles of the face and neck or releasing trigger points may cause brief, specific discomfort (often described by patients as “good pain”). Once the pressure is released, deep and pleasant relaxation follows. Our physiotherapists always work within the patient's tolerance and adjust the intensity of therapy as they go.

Quite the opposite! Cooperation between a physiotherapist and an orthodontist is the gold standard of treatment. The movement of teeth during orthodontic therapy changes the biomechanics of the entire masticatory system, which often causes temporary tension and pain. Physiotherapy helps the tissues adapt to the new conditions, eases discomfort and allows smoother, more comfortable treatment with the appliance.

Many of our patients feel clear relief, a sense of a “lighter face” and greater ease in opening their mouth after the very first visit. However, problems such as bruxism develop over years. Permanently eliminating tension habits takes time, regular sessions at the clinic (e.g. as part of the Bruxism Package) and daily simple self-therapy, which we teach during the visit.

The main warning signs for which you should contact us are:
  • Frequent tension headaches (resembling migraines).
  • Clenching teeth in stressful situations or grinding at night (bruxism).
  • Waking up with a “tired face” and a stiff neck.
  • Clicking or jumping in the jaw, or pain when eating hard foods.
  • Difficulty opening your mouth wide.
We also recommend a visit before planned orthodontic treatment or after extensive prosthetic work.

Facial physiotherapy is an excellent, 100% natural alternative and also a great complement to aesthetic medicine treatments. We use no injections, fillers or botulinum toxin. Instead we stimulate natural regenerative processes, improve lymph flow (reducing swelling) and release the fascia from tension, which softens expression lines. The result is a rested, firm and naturally lifted face.
